On 15th May 2020, it was announced that the Police Federation of England & Wales intends to launch a Group Action against the Government on behalf of police officers who were victims of discrimination and suffered ‘injury to feelings’, as a result of changes to pensions caused by the introduction of a new scheme in 2015.
The deadline for the submission of the questionnaire is 17th July 2020.
On 8th June 2020, an email was sent by the Police Federation National Secretary – Alex Duncan – to Cheshire Police Officers’ e-mail addresses. This e-mail contained a link to an Online Application Questionnaire for officers who are eligible to complete and submit. This e-mail was re-sent on 10th June 2020 from a Cheshire Police Federation e-mail address to officers due to issues with Spam filters on the Force e-mail system.
If you wish to be included in the Group Action, you must complete the online Application Questionnaire.
Am I eligible to join the Group Action Claim?
Eligible applicants are those who:
- commenced payment of subscriptions within six months of joining the police service and have been a continuous subscribing member since that date (except for any period of unpaid leave, maternity leave or temporary promotion to the rank of Superintendent) or until they exited the Police Service and
- who were in service prior to and as at 1 April 2015 and in a police pension scheme at that time and
- who transferred into the 2015 Scheme immediately or who received tapered protection and
- who did not therefore receive full protection from having to move into the 2015 scheme.
Claimants must also not have previously lodged a legal claim as a result of discrimination in relation to transitional pension arrangements. Eligibility will be subject to further verification by PFEW and/or Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP
