As we approach the end of 2019, I find myself reflecting on what has been a hugely demanding time for Cheshire Constabulary.
A year of political turbulence around Brexit, a number of high profile protests in the capital and local policing demands have highlighted the importance of officer numbers. Having spent time on a number of LPUs over the past few weeks, I have seen just how stretched policing can be.
Departments such as CID, PPD and the DRU are carrying eye-watering amounts of serious crimes to investigate. More is been asked of our roads policing department to make Cheshire a safer place, and the Alliance is covering a huge geographical area.
Our specialist departments are working hard to bring organised crime groups to justice.

Our specialist departments are working hard to bring organised crime groups to justice. With this in mind, I welcome the Home Office announcement of the first wave of 90 ‘additional’ officers for Cheshire in 2020.
As I said in my last article though, the devil is in the detail around funding for this and, while extra officers would most certainly be well received, there needs to be further support from the Government with ongoing funding.
“OFFENCES INVOLVING CYBER-CRIME ARE MUCH MORE COMMONPLACE NOW AND WE NEED TO ENSURE WE HAVE THE RIGHT RESOURCES TO DEAL WITH THIS, IN A TIMELY AND EFFECTIVE MANNER”
